Holy Week pageant in Hamrun

-

Miġruħ minħabba fi dnubietna (Wounded because of our sins) ..... This is what the Prophet Isaiah said about our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also the title of this year’s live production presented and performed by the Propera Avgesco Drama Group Hamrun for the Holy Week.

This year’s production is the fourth live representation organised by this Drama Group with the full collaboration and support of the Hamrun Local Council, whereby once again the parvis of the St Cajetan Parish Church will be transformed into the city of Jerusalem to bring to life the story of true and unconditional love towards humanity.

In this year’s production, the story will be delivered in the form of monologues from six biblical personalities who played an important role in Jesus’ life. These are John, Peter, Judas, Veronica, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. Each monologue will take us from one moment to another, from Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem to the last supper to Peter’s betrayal to Judas’ despair and Jesus’ walk towards his death carrying the cross during which we will see an interesting meeting between Jesus and Veronica.

The climax is reached with the crucifixion when Jesus forgives everybody’s sins and soon after we will see that mother receiving her son’s lifeless body with a broken heart followed by the last thoughts from Mary Magdalene.

Among the substantial number of actors originating from Hamrun who will be participating in the various scenes, the main roles will be performed by: Jonathan Azzopardi, John Suda, Dorian Micallef, Marie-Clare Sammut, Tanya Agius Borg, Christine Buttigieg and James Attard in the role of Jesus Christ.

This production is written by Renzo Bonello who needs no introduction when it comes to writing plays for Holy Week. This year’s musical aspect of the production will be performed live by the University Of Malta, Junior College Orchestra under the direction of Mro. Manuel Pirotta.

Miġruħ minħabba fi dnubietna on Saturday 8th April at 8.30pm outside the St Cajetan’s Parish Church. Entrance is free of charge however any donations will be appreciated.
