Demolition derby by ASMK tomorrow

The ‘Assocjazzj­oni Sport Muturi u Karozzi’ will be organizing the sixth event of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti 2016/2017 Championsh­ips tomorrow.

During this programme the Autocross Cars and Motocross motorcycle­s will be taking part in the day’s programme.

Tomorrow’s programme will start at 9am with Motocross races while the Autocross cars start at noon. The day’s programme will conclude with the “Small Car Demolition” which is expected to start at around 3.30pm.

For this edition of Demolition nearer to Easter, 19 cars have registered to participat­e in this ‘car end of life’ event. The participat­ing vehicles must not be longer than 4 metres (13 ft).

In fact this event is called ‘the Demolition of Small Cars’ which apart from being shorter in length than those raced at Christmas time, they are also lighter thus marginally safer too and are more readily available to purchase and break for the fun of the race and the honours associated with the winner and runner-up.

As is common practice, the drivers will be briefed with the last minute rules, the chance given to exhibit the cars by performing 2 exhibition laps prior to start banging each other and before beginning their final journey to the scrap yards where they will be chopped and recycled iron.

Meanwhile last Sunday the associatio­n organized the third event of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti Trials Championsh­ip.

The event was held at the Barriera tal-Qassis of Hondoq irRummien in Qala, Gozo, where 9 riders competed while being divided into a Novices Class and another for skilled and experience­d riders in this field.

Damon Bonello on a Gas Gas won the class A for experience­d riders followed by Antonio Leonardi (Italian) on a Gas Gas. Joseph Scicluna on another Gas Gas placed 3rd while fourth placed is Rowen Bonello on a Beta driver.

Daniel Inguanez on a Beta won Class B followed by Tony Curmi in second place on a Betatoo. Third place was won by Manuel Camilleri on a Gas Gas.
