The second day of the 2017 Tour of Malta

The 23rd edition of the Tour of Malta Cycling continued yesterday with the second stage road race at the St. Paul's Bay By-Pass with eleven turns for the Elite and for eight to Masters and Women.

After the stage, no local cyclist found his place on the podium ,but Michelle Vella Wood of Team Greens kept the red shirt in the female category. Even the Greek Lukas Katapodis of Pigasos C.C. kept the red shirt in the Masters while in Elite category William Brown is the new Lider.

The Elite category was won by William Brown (Fiesten Tempo) in 1: 33: 38.10. Second was Jack Rees (Brother Driverplan NRD) in 1: 33: 42.69. Third finisher was Danny Smith (Mammoth Life Style) in 1: 33: 45.48.

The Masters Category was won by Dave Griffits of Mammoth Life Style in 1: 13: 43.05. He was followed in second and third place respective­ly by Lukas Katapodis of Pigasos Cycling Club in 1: 13: 44.05 and Jim Jones (Velo Vitesse) in 1: 13: 44.08.

The Female category was won by Elice Sharp (NCC Group Torelli Quota) in 1: 16: 36.39. The second finisher was Ellen McDermott (EDCO Continenta­l) in 1: 18: 37.41, while Gabriella Nordin (Team Greens) ended the third in 1: 18: 37.75.

The first Maltese in the Elite category were Alex Pettett (Pro Action All Stars) and Maurice Formosa (The Cyclists) who finished in fifth and sixth place respective­ly.

At the end of the stage, Joe Bajada, General Secretary of the Malta Cycling Federation, Barry Withmore, Member of the Organizing Committee and Jonathan Barbara, Private Secretary of the Parliament­ary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport presented the medals and the red shirt to overall leaders.

The Tour of Malta continues today, Saturday, with the third stage on 60 kilometers on the Nadur circuit, Gozo and ends on Sunday at the fourth and final stage which will take place at a distance 88 kilometers on the circuit of St. Martin.
