Accounting and audit firm donates AED to Dar il-Kaptan

-

Accounting, audit and business advisory firm Baker Tilly Malta recently donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to Dar Il-Kaptan as part of its corporate social responsibility.

As a non-profit and non-governmental foundation, the Foundation for Respite Care Services (FRCS), which operates Dar il-Kaptan, is committed to helping people with disabilities and their families by offering them respite care services. The foundation runs on the principle that the individual has a right to dignity, respect and privacy.

It acknowledges that families require adequate support and the necessary respite so that people with disabilities can remain in their family home and continue to live in the community, leading a life outside institutionalisation. Dar il-Kaptan has continued to assist the community by providing a number of families with services that run on the mentality of enhancing each individual’s potential, enriching their quality of life. It was thanks to these morals and values that Dar il-Kaptan received the European Citizen’s Prize in 2016.

Many are contributing to Dar il-Kaptan’s cause, assisting it to be the ‘home away from home’ for its clients in the surrounding community. Thanks to the new life-saving equipment, it can diagnose the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. On top of this, it can treat patients through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy that enables the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.

FRCS chairperson Jennifer Sant said: “Seeing businesses give their contribution to the community and making a difference is inspiring. It would be greatly encouraging if other businesses and individuals would follow in the footsteps of Baker Tilly Malta, and give back to those in need in any way they find possible. At the end of the day, true wealth comes from how much you give back.”
