Gżira Fair in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation
The locality of Gżira will once again be at the centre of philantropic activity when organising a fair in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCFF) on the 6th May, 2017 between 9am and 4pm. Volunteers, from the Gżira Local Council and others from the MCCFF, will be joining forces for this event.
Apart from the usual activities organised during the year for its residents, the Gżira Local Council is steadily gaining ground in organising larger events that attract not only residents but also people from outside the Gżira community. One such event was held just a few months ago; it was spread over an entire week and was dedicated to raising awareness on social equality and inclusion through Culture and Sport.
This time around, the Council’s first big event of the year will once again be raising funds in aid of the MCCFF. The stated objective of this national institution – which is very familiar with all the Maltese – is to assist individuals and philanthropic associations with their needs. The Fund does not receive any money from the Government but relies entirely on the generosity of the Maltese public and on corporate donations as well as on the organisation fundraising events.
The overall event will be spread from Arturo Colombo Square right through St Clare’s College grounds. Once again, the College is collaborating with the Gżira Local Council as it has done with other activities in the past.
President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca is expected to visit the event and mingle with the people of Gżira as well as with all the participants.
A spokesman for the Gżira Local Council explains, “The Council is very happy with the ongoing collaboration established with the MCCFF and St of Clare’s College, through which a big event such as this could be organised.”
He added that such collaboration further sustains the common good for the whole community.
The Council further expressed its appreciation of the efforts made by a number of volunteers, hailing from the Gżira community together with others from the MCCFF, who work with dedication during such events.
It noted that most do so away from the limelight because they have charity and the common good at heart. They work with conviction because they believe in an equal and inclusive society.
The fair will include a little of everything for everybody. Children’s attractions include a “bouncy castle” and trampolines; singers will provide entertainment for all whilst a magician will certainly attract the attention of both children and adults with his tricks.
Sale items include clothes, house-ware, books, educational material, food and drinks as well as antiques and collectables. There will also be a special health and beauty stand with professionals offering advice.
All proceeds will go in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
