Matthew Asciak and Elaine Genovese strike again
Matthew Asciak continued his unstoppable dominion of the local tennis scene by winning the MAPFRE MSVLIFE Marsa TennisOpen Tournamenton a hot Sundayafternoon in April.
In the final, he beat Sviatoslav Gulin, the biggest surprise of the tournament, who came through to the last leg quite unexpectedly. This paved the way for Gulin to set up a final against his coach and mentor Matthew Asciak.
Asciak showed his supremacy and took no chances, finishing off another Open in style winning the match 6-1 6-0.
In the Ladies’ Section, Elaine Genovese confirmed she is the undisputed Champion once again, winning the event against Brenda Galea with a 6-0 6-1 scoreline.
Genovese hadn’t dropped a single game in her run-up to the final, which was played on Friday evening.
The Men’s Doubles saw Asciak partnering with Sviatoslav Gulin for the first time.
The partnership proved to work very well as they progressed to the final losing only 3 games in the process.
