Last kick decides the game in favour of St Andrews

- Victor Ciangura

Watched by a very large crowd at the Luxol Ground, both sets of players gave their very best in a very enjoyable game as both sides had their very good moments.

St Andrews were the first to threaten. After a Russell Micallef flag kick Jordan Kelly headed slightly out from inside the area and after Sebastian Cassar Torregiani was fouled on the right edge of the area the ball was cleared with difficulty from Kelly’s free kick.

In the first action by Valletta in the 8th minute, Matthew Pulis entered the area after dribbling an opponet, but the ball hit the base of the upright from his shot.

At the other end, three minutes later Mattia Veselji enterd the area after dribbling past an opponent and from his hard drive the ball rattled the bar with Valletta keeper Brian Schiavone beaten.

In another action by Valletta, Pulis served Matthias Tabone with a through ball in the area but Spiteri foiled him as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball.

St Andrews then created the last two actions before the break. After a run down the right flank by Veselji he served Jacob Crossey with a perfect cross but he headed high from two metres with only Schiavone to beat.

Zack Camilleri then served Cassar Torregiani with a square pass outside the area but Schiavone saved his hard drive in two attempts.

Valletta mounted the first two actions after the restart. Pulis served Kurt Buhagiar with a high through ball in the area and Spiteri had to dive and save his header and also neutralised a high cross from a flag kick by Lyon Camilleri.

In a reaction by St Andrews Kelly released Reece Galea on the left flank and after advancing, a defender cleared the ball to a corner.

Veselji then entered the area after dribbling past two defenders and Schiavone saved his hard low drive.

Valletta came very close to break the deadlock on the hour when Matthias Tabone served Buhagiar with a through ball outside the area and as he tried his luck with a lobbed ball it missed the upright by inches with Spiteri beaten. Schiavone then saved in two attempts a hard shot by Galea from the edge of the area after dribbling past two opponents.

Two minutes before the end of normal time Veselji entered the area after dribbling past an opponent but the ball was cleared from over the line by Yousef Haggar.

In the last minute of normal time St Andrews won a free kick just outside the area after Veselji was tripped from behind and the same player scored direct from the free kick with a hard low shot.

Two minutes later the referee signalled the end of the game to the joy of the numerous St Andrews supporters.

At the end of the game, Robert Attard Youth FA Vice President, presented the Trophy to St Andrews captain Jordan Kelly and medals to both sets of players and substitutes and to the match officials.
