Mosta and Qormi fight for a Premier League spot for next season

-

After almost all verdicts were made official in the last week of the BOV Premier League, today the last verdict will be known, as Premier League club Mosta face Qormi who finished fourth in the First Division, in a play-off game to determine which team will play in the Premier League next season.

Mosta had a turbulent season, starting the league with Edmond Lufi as their coach, but after a few games he resigned and Ivan Zammit who was already with the club, took his place.

After a series of negative results, foreign coach Zsolt Hornyak stepped in to try and turn the club’s fortunes, but all efforts were in vain, as Mosta stayed in 11th place. Hornyak was sacked, and Maltese coach Johann Scicluna took the helm.

As they looked destined to play this game, Scicluna started fielding only four foriegners and the team improved, as under him, Mosta enjoyed their best spell this season, defeating Pembroke last week to play this game, after they had five points deducted.

Qormi were relegated to first division last season after a disappointing campaign.

They engaged Brian Spiteri as their coach with a nucleus of young players, and despite the predictions, Qormi managed to seal the fourth place, after having long spells in the top three positions.
