Major part of Bidni road in Marsascala is still in disastrous state

-

A major part of Bidni road in Marsascala and adjacent alleys are still in a disastrous state, although it was promised to be resurfaced with tarmac, like the other part, more than five years ago.

The Local Council has been committing itself to resurface all of Bidni Road since 2012. At the time only the part from the Chapel to Marsascala Road was done, with the other half, from the Chapel to Zafran Street, and other alleys, left in a disastrous state. The residents and owners of farms and fields were promised that work would be completed, however five years later there are still no signs of work.

At a Local Council Meeting in December 2012, Mayor Mario Calleja said that this road would be completed in the following year, in 2013. However four years have passed since the promised date and this part of Bidni road is still in the disastrous state it was in back then.

In 2012 half of Bidni Road was resurfaced with tarmac, while the other half was, for some reason left out. It seems the residents, farmers and field owners in this part are not people like the rest and are not paying the same taxes as all the other citizens. It seems that we don’t use vehicles to pass from this road risking lot of damages. This is creating a lot inconvenience, and damages our cars and our health.

During a Local Council meeting in March of 2015, the issue of the state of this road cropped up again, and according to the Council’s meeting minutes, there was an agreement that the road would be completed and resurfaced. However two years after this meeting, everything is as it was then. Sometimes the council just sends someone to do some small patching work that comes off within weeks.

What has to happen for Marsascala Local Council to wake up and finally take action once and for all on this disastrous road? When will the Mayor and Councillors take note and understand that the residents, farmers and field owners are experiencing? Is the Council ready to pay for the damage to our cars?
