MCAST organises its 3rd National Water Conference
On Thursday 11 May, the MCAST Water Research and Training Centre, within MCAST’s University College, organised a full one-day national conference focusing on more efficient methodologies to reduce water wastage and effective mechanisms to optimise water usage. The Conference was held at the Institute of Applied Sciences Auditorium in Paola.
The Conference was divided into three main thematic sessions, ranging from current research in relation to water, to educational initiatives to increase awareness about water utilization, to the innovative solutions related to water efficiencies and management.
These sessions allowed the general public to interact with key experts and discuss the current state of affairs in relation to various dimensions and aspects of water. This conference aimed at providing a multi-dimensional outlook; looking into the blueprint of water in each and every product we consume, and water measurement and management solutions and water innovation projects.
Key local industry and academic experts in water research and management, both from the private sector and government entities, gave their input at this Conference. A number of diverse entities participated in the Conference including The Water Services Corporation (WSC), The Chartered Institute for Water & Environmental Management (CIWEM), Paragon Europe, The Energy and Water Agency (E&WA), The Malta Business Bureau (MBB), the Malta Water Association (MWA) and the University of Malta.
This event strongly emphasised that with the population on the rise and industrial steady growth, the strain on our water resources is becoming more and more visible. It is everyone’s responsibility to make decisions today that consider the relationship we have with our environment, and the importance of ensuring that generations to come can enjoy the beauty of this planet. Helping protect our precious water resources will also ensure that future generations do not look back and wonder why we did not do anything when we could see the impact our actions were having on the environment.
The second day of the two-day event was held on Friday 12 May, and consisted of the demonstration of an innovative MCAST water simulation and meter test facility, as well as a site visit to the WSC Pembroke Reverse Osmosis plant.
