Engineers at Water Services are being discriminated against – UHM
A group engineers at the Water Services Corporation (WSC) are being discriminated against and are deprived of their danger money, UHM Voice of the Workers claimed.
Danger money refers to the allowance for risks faced in the work place.
The engineers in question work at the sewage purification plant, and believe they are being exposed to dangerous fumes and gases.
It should be noted that the engineers are provided with vaccinations against certain infectious diseases.
However, their Collective Agreement, which was signed recently, omitted the aforementioned allowance.
The workers claim that they attempted to approach the Union of Water Services Corporation Professionals (UWSCP) but were disgusted by the union, who did not consult them on their decisions and had given misleading information which advised them that their allowance was cut across-the-board.
This is not the case as the group claim that others employees who work with sewage purification are benefitting from the allowance.
UHM Employment Relations Manager Ramon Francalanza stressed that the union needs to be the voice of this group of workers as their union did not want to stand up for them.
The union warned that if the WSC did not want to resolve this issue, the union would find no objection in escalating their actions.
