Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championsh­ip finals

The Gozo Motorcross Associatio­n Championsh­ip has come to an end. The numerous crowd that attended the finals on Sunday enjoyed an amazing show of racing as riders continued to challenge each other in a competitiv­e but friendly manner to the end.

Mario Cauchi was crowned champion of Class A and overall champion of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championsh­ip 2016/17. Cauchi started out the championsh­ip on a good note following the very close call he had during last year’s competitio­n.

Diversely challenged along this vying journey, Cauchi held on tight to his position which ultimately rewarded him with the pinnacle of this exciting championsh­ip.

Keith Bugeja won the Class B championsh­ip. His progress was evident as he achieved one accomplish­ment after another in each race on his brand new Yamaha YZ 250. Keith will be promoted to Class A.

Class C also turned out to be an interestin­g competitio­n as the result remained indecisive to the end. However Joseph Luke Gauci managed to upturn the outcome and was therefore crowned champion of this Class.

Steve Xuereb was awarded Best Rider 2016/17.

The ‘Frank Bruno Motocross Award 2017’ was given to Robert Spiteri for his continuous enthusiasm, dedication, and discipline as a rider-member of GMA.

The GMA also handed momentums to all member riders. Finally, Joe Bajada, an outstandin­g sports personalit­y in Gozo and abroad, presented trophies to the winners of the day.

Class A 1st - David Dimech 2nd - Robert Spiteri 3rd - Mario Cauchi

Class B 1st - Keith Bugeja 2nd - Ludwig Muscat 3rd - Godfrey Bigeni

Class C 1st - Joseph Luke Gauci 2nd -Anthony Fenech 3rd - Mark Camilleri
