Instability is not one-seat majority, but PM under investigation – Simon Busuttil
Political instability is not having a one-seat majority, but a prime minister at the centre of a magisterial investigation, Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil said.
He was being interviewed by The Malta Independent online editor Stephen Calleja on INDEPTH. A similar invitation has been extended to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who has not yet given an answer.
In recent political activities, Prime Minister Muscat has often raised the spectre of instability if the Nationalist Party and Partit Demokratiku coalition wins the election with a one-seat majority.
But Dr Busuttil dismissed the idea, saying that political instability happens when a prime minister fails to take action on serious allegations involving a minister and the OPM chief of staff. This happened in spite of Labour winning with a staggering 36,000-vote majority and having a nine-seat advantage in Parliament.
“He is drowning in corruption. What worse stability can there be?” he said. “Even if Muscat wins the election, the country will still be in a dangerous situation as we would still have a prime minister under investigation.”
Dr Busuttil said that PD leader Marlene Farrugia has not made any demands, not for a driver, not for perks, not for a ministry. She had everything she wanted with the Labour Party, and the fact that she moved away shows that she is a woman of principle.
