Five series you need to watch this summer

- Rebecca Iversen

Although summer usually indicates months on end of sun-and-sea filled bliss, late nights at the beach with an Aperol Spritz and hopefully many late evening BBQs with good company, it is also a great time to catch up on all those TV series we’ve come to love.

For students, summer really is freedom, with no more commitments for school, sixth form or university, which means you’ll have plenty of time to keep up with all the series that are making a return. For everyone else, who sadly still needs to go to work, the return of these series is still the ideal way to unwind after long day.

Complied below are the 5 series that are coming back with a new season this summer and a little hint on what to expect for each.

The Great British Bake Off Show

We thought it was all over but one of are guilty pleasures is back. Seasons 4 premiers on 16 June in the United States, which means another season of Mary Berry, plus Paul Hollywood, and this season hosts our favourites, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.

Game of Thrones (Fire and Ice)

The wait is finally over. The most anticipated and religiously followed series is finally returning to our screens. Season 7, which premieres 16 July, sees the battle for the Iron throne and control over the seven kingdoms become fiercer than ever. However, this anticipated season will be one to remember; were all seven kingdoms must unite to defeat the white walkers, Humanity vs the undead. With the faith of Westeros hanging in the balance, excitement is an understatement.

Orange is the New Black

Season 4 left us grabbing the tissues and trying to hold back the tears, at the death of fan-favourite character.

The season ended with a riot at Litchfield and quite the cliffhanger, meaning season 5 has got a lot to answer for. The new season will be back on our screens from 9 June and will hopefully answer all our unanswered questions.

Suits

The legal drama returns, in which the team has to deal with their own struggles as they adjust to a new world order without Jessica (Gina Torres). Viewers will be eagerly expecting more nail-biting cases, whilst also enjoying the continuation of the Specter- Ross bromance. The drama will resume on 12 July and season 7 will surely not disappoint.

House of Cards

The highly, anticipated, addictive political drama has just returned to our screens this Tuesday.

Season 5 is determined to deliver a more outrageous drama than the real thing. Keep up-to-date with President Frank Underwood and his First Lady, Claire Underwood and their devious plans.
