€27 million in scholarships to 2,052 people
2,052 people have benefitted from just over €27 million provided to them through the various scholarship schemes available through the Maltese government and the European Union since 2011.
The information was provided by Education Minister Evarist Bartolo in reply to a PQ tabled by MP Alex Muscat.
The total amount is broken down as follows:
The Endeavour scheme, which is the current scholarship designed for students seeking tertiary education, is split into two categories.
Category A will provide 467 students, with €7,700,000 in funds. Till date, €3,250,400 have been disbursed, and there is a projected €1,600,000 investment for this year.
Category B has already provided €1,800,845 to 123 people. For this year, €900,000 have so far been requested.
Reach High, the scheme designed for post-doctoral grants, is provided to those projects which are longer than three years, and will provide €3,000,000 to individuals engaged in post-doctorate study. Each grant can request a maximum of 200,000. Till now, €1,144,055 has been disbursed.
The Malta Arts Scholarship, which has been made available to 88 persons since 2011, has provided €1,500,000 in funds since then.
This year, the scheme provided €250,000.
The Malta Sports Scholarship has provided €600,000 to 67 applicants. This year, the scheme provided €120,000.
The Malta Government Scholarship Scheme, which ended in 2014, provided 244 different individuals with a total of €3,600,000 in funds.
The Strategic Educational Pathways Scholarship (STEPS), which was available between 2011 and 2012, provided 396 persons with €4,003,387 in funds.
Master It, which was available during 2013 and 2014, provided 651 individuals with €4,970,953 in funds.
