Presentation night for two tournaments at VLTC
Last Saturday, the presentations for the San Michel Team Tournament 2017 and Wilson Spring Tournament 2017, were held at the club premises.
San Michel tournament
The San Michel Team tournament attracted a record participation of 78 men and 48 women, a fitting recognition of San Michel’s constant contribution towards the development of the game in Malta.
Players were grouped into six teams each, captained by Emanuel Gatt (Team A), Christine Scerri (Team B), Grace Barbara (Team C), Lucienne-Meli (Team D), Joe Aquilina (Team E) and Neville Cassar (Team F).
The tournament was played over 12 weeks with teams meeting each other over two rounds and the top four eventually progressing to the knockout stage.
In the semi-finals, Neville Cassar’s side overcame the stiff resistance offered by Emanuel Gatt’s players while Grace Barbara’s team was better than the team led by Lucienne Meli.
The final, played on VLTC’s San Michel Centre Court, was a hard-fought encounter in which team C of Grace Barbara carried the honours after prevailing over the team led by Neville Cassar with the score reading 8 sets to 6.
VLTC thanked sponsors Simonds Farsons Cisk for giving club members the possibility to enjoy themselves at the San Michel tournament which served as a weekend breaker during the winter months.
Wilson tournament
The Wilson Team tournament attracted a good participation of 78 men and 42 women. Players were grouped into six teams, captained by Neville Cassar (Team A), Adrian Chetcuti (Team B), Kim Fava (Team C), Annabelle Abela (Team D), Trevor Rutter (Team E) and Grace Barbara (Team F).
The tournament was played over 7 weeks with teams meeting each other and the top four eventually progressing to the knockout stage.
In the semi-finals, Grace Barbara’s team overcame the hard resistance offered by Annabelle Abela’s players while Kim Fava’s team got the better of that led by Neville Cassar.
The final was a hard-fought encounter in which team C of Kim Fava carried the honours after prevailing over the team led by Grace Barbara
