Two Gozitan men have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking and other related charges for a case that dates back to August 2008.

Josef Cefai and another man, both from Zebbug in Gozo, were 19 and 17 years old respectively when the offence was committed.

They were found to have sold and been in possession of ecstasy and me th led ne di ox ya mph etamine( MD A ).

The men were also accused of committing the same offences in the four months prior to their arrests between the 2 and 3 August 2008.

The second individual was also charged with the hunting of a protected bird and other illegal hunting activities.

He was found to be in the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The court, which was presided over by Magistrate Joseph Mifsud, noted that the case dated back to August 2008 and that the men now had stable family lives, were employed, and were free from addiction.

The court took this into account when sentencing the men, along with their guilty plea, and granted the minimum sentence for the offences.

It was also noted that one of the men was a minor at the time of the offence, and that the hunting charges occurred before amendments to the law.

Cefai was sentenced to nine months in prison and was ordered to pay a fine of €1500.

The other man was sentenced to six months in prison and was ordered to pay a fine of €1500.

The pair were also told to pay €148.17 for the court experts in the case.
