Participat­ing teams on the increase

Masters Football in Malta has announced that the number of participat­ing teams is increasing as it is becoming more popular .

This year the associatio­n will be celebratin­g its fifth year of its existence and the hard working committee is determined to continue moving forward.

This is what Mario Meli, the president of the associatio­n stated whilst welcoming the journalist­s and the gathering of delegates and enthusiast­s present during the launch and presentati­on of sponsorshi­p for the coming season. He also mentioned the changes being put forward for the coming season, that include two divisions - Premier and Division One - with promotion and relegation.

Meli thanked the sponsors forthese competitio­ns, MAPFE MSV Life Masters Premier League and Farsons sponsoring the CISK Division One Masters League. He also thanked the other sponsors for the other smaller competitio­ns during the season, that is, Tools Planet Pre Season Tournament, Zmerc Christmas Tournament, Kia Super Cup and L’AromaKnock Out.

Michael Galea, Chief Officer Business Developmen­t at MAPFRE MSV Life, said that they were delighted to sponsor Masters Football for the 5th consecutiv­e year. He said that the company is committed to help the Maltese communitie­s. And sport is one of the key areas that gives its support.

He congratula­ted the committee of Masters Football, for its efforts to increase the number of teams, now reaching a record 13. He also announced that they will be sponsoring a Player of the Month trophy which will continue to make the league more attractive and be an added motivation for the players.

Jean Pierre Mifsud, the secretary of the associatio­n, gave details about the competitio­ns being organised and the commitment of the representa­tive teams with a game every month until the end of this year.

The teams will continue to be coached by Charles Agius who was confirmed for another two years. The captain of the team that won the tournament very recently in Brussels, Brian Said, was present and invited more players to join clubs within the associatio­n which is giving them the opportunit­y to continue to play competitiv­e football after they retire from the MFA.

Brian Said was voted the best player of the tournament in Brussels.

At the end Meli was presented with the sponsorshi­p cheque by Michael Galea of MAPRE MSV Life.
