Paceville assault bouncers were unlicensed

-

The six bouncers who were involved in the assault on two foreigners in Paceville two months ago were working without a licence, according to the charges that have been filed in court.

TVM has reported that a Police Inspector has filed charges of grievous bodily harm, assault, disturbing the peace and working without a license against the six. The bouncers have been named as Simon Cassar of Swatar, William Briguglio of Valletta, Carmelo Zammit of Valletta, Carmel and Jurgen Sghendo of Msida, and Ezekiel-Gorg Mintoff of Santa Venera.

The charges have been filed in court by Police Inspector Trevor Micallef. The bouncers are expected to be formally arraigned in the coming two weeks.

Footage of the May incident, which was aired on TVM this week, showed the moment a Syrian, 29, man was assaulted after being refused entry into a gentleman’s club. The man’s shirt was already bloody before one bouncer came from behind and punched him on the head. The same man and a colleague were then seen throwing kicks and punches at the man, who eventually stumbled and ends up unconscious on the ground, with a pool of blood forming under his face. According to TVM the man required stitches and was in danger of losing sight in one of his eyes.

The clip also shows another man, believed to be the injured man’s friend, ripping his shirt off and squaring up for a fight. Moments later he runs out of shot, with one of the bouncers seemingly throwing a glass bottle in his direction. He was allegedly assaulted in a nearby square but this altercation was not caught on CCTV. The man, a 33-year-old Jordanian, was also seriously injured and required stitches.

The same footage also shows another incident, which reportedly took place minutes earlier, when one of the bouncers from the same group is seen slamming another man into the enclosure of the adjacent club.
