Muscat says PL’s initiative to attract more women into politics ‘already generating interest’

-

The Labour Party’s initiative to have half of the candidates running for the general election in 2027 to be women is already generating a lot of interest, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said yesterday. Dr Muscat spoke in a very short interview on the Labour Party’s radio station.

The programme which is set to attract more women in politics is called ‘Lead’ and is being headed by PL MEP Miriam Dalli. Dr Muscat said that this programme has already generated a lot of interest. “I believe this programme will no only change the face of the Labour Party but also the face of Maltese politics.”

He said that this progressive idea was one of Dom Mintoff’s dreams. Yesterday marked the 101 year anniversary from the birth of the former Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party.

Prime Minister Muscat said that even in the middle of the summer season, the government is still hard at work. He said this work, most of which is ‘behind the scenes’, is leaving the desired results and statistics are there to prove this.

He spoke about the social housing issue. Muscat said that the economical success is leading to a scenario where people are being thrown out of the property they are renting due to the high renting prices. He then reiterated that he wants to make Malta ‘future proof’.

Dr Muscat mentioned the American University of Malta and said that the university already started to receive applicants for the first studies.

He was also asked to react on the current situation within the Nationalist Party. Dr Muscat said that Simon Busuttil would not listen to any advice and, without hinting directly at the comments by MP Mario Galea, the Prime Minister said that, “there already seems to be enough people advising Busuttil.”
