GlobalCapital sponsors Gozitan students
GlobalCapital recently sponsored an event organised by GuG (Grupp Universitarji Ghawdxin), an organisation that supports Gozitan University students.
Held at Villa Fjorita, Marsalforn on Sunday 30 July, GuG’s reception was organised to celebrate its 30th anniversary since it was set up. The organisation helps Gozitan students studying at the University of Malta as they embark on a new life, away from home.
Speaking at the reception, GuG President Maria Dimech underlined how the organisation has been a pillar of strength for those students in difficulty. Its star achievements include working to allow Gozitan students to sit for their exams from Gozo; fighting for a fair accommodation subsidy as well as securing a seat on the board for every decision taken that affected the Gozo Campus. The organisation is currently working to finalise a project, in collaboration with President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca to help those students with financial difficulty apply for benefits online.
Ms Dimech explained the struggles of being a Gozitan student: “The fact that you have to think for yourself, cook, clean, keep up with university was not easy. It is for these reasons that organisations like GuG were formed, to help me and students like me.”
In line with its strategy for talent development in Gozo, GlobalCapital recently opened an office in Victoria. The office consists of a back office structure and is also open for clients by appointment offering Life Insurance, Health Insurance and Investment services.
A Gozitan himself, Chief Operations Officer Paul Said said: “GlobalCapital takes a vested interest in talent development in both Malta and Gozo. We want to give Gozitans the opportunity to have an office job, and from which to build a successful career. Setting up an office in Gozo is part of this goal of ours.”
