Adrian Delia condemns Saviour Balzan attack on Simon Busuttil’s family

There are people who do not want the PN to adopt a new way.

PN leadership contender Adrian Delia yesterday condemned what he described as a “malicious attack” by Malta Today managing editor Saviour Balzan last Sunday.

“I encourage all people of goodwill to join me in condemning the malicious attack on the family of our leader Simon Busuttil (by Balzan) intended to throw bad light on me, but which was a direct attack to hurt Simon Busuttil,” Delia said in a statement.

“While it is natural that Balzan favours another candidate in (the PN leadership) election, it is not acceptable that he and other bloggers are allowed to hurt the leader or the Nationalist Party in this way,” Delia said.

“I already had the opportunity, during the Xtra programme with Saviour Balzan, and other programmes and interviews, to say that I do not have any secret accounts or hidden partnerships.

“The work I carried out in my career is all in the open and can be scrutinised by everyone. I passed through a process of due diligence both as a director of the second largest Austrian bank as well as by Maltese banks, and recently through a declaration made to the PN Electoral Commission before the nomination was accepted,” he said.

Delia reiterated that, if elected leader, he will publish all details pertaining to his assets and his business according to law.

He repeated the call for unity in the party. “There are people who do not want the PN to adopt a new way,” he said. “Our political adversaries will continue to use public funds to influence their party’s agenda. We cannot allow this and whoever attacks the Nationalist Party without a reason must answer for his actions.”

In his article, Balzan wrote about Delia’s business link with the former husband of Simon Busuttil’s sister and went on to mention a domestic incident.
