Local committees to have a more prominent political role – Alex Perici Calascione

-

The Nationalist Party must set up district committees made up of two elected members of the local committees in each district in order to give each committee a regional voice, Alex Perici Calascione said when addressing party councillors and members as part of his PN leadership campaign ‘Partit Rebbieħ’ (A Winning Party).

District committees would be invited to present working documents to the General Council underlining their work in order for these to be taken over by the Executive Committee and be taken on by the party when forming its policies. This is part of the bottom up approach being proposed by Perici Calasione.

The main aim is to have policies drawn up by the people for the people – this is what the role of the local committees needed to focus further on.

“We need to inspire discussion at all levels of the party – in this way we can achieve better policies based on the people’s aspirations,” Perici Calascione explained.

Perici Calascione expressed gratitude to the party local committees for their role in aiding the party to becoming financially stable once again. But now was the time for the committees to take on their natural role.

“Local committees are the face of the party in our localities and thus they are central to the party’s policy making. They are informed of local realities and are in the best position to transmit them to the party given the right structure to do this,” Perici Calascione concluded.
