Zammit Dimech to contest European Parliament elections in 2019

-

MEP Francis Zammit Dimech yesterday officially announced that he will contest the European elections in 2019 for the Nationalist Party. He emphasised that “this will be an important test for me but also important test for the Nationalist Party. This will be the process were the people will vote once more to elect the six MEPs that will represent them in the European Parliament.”

Zammit Dimech announced his decision during an activity for all activists and volunteers, during which he thanked all those present for the work and commitment shown during the European elections in 2013. He also described the current preparations underway in order to start his political work when the European Parliament will convene after the summer recess.

Francis Zammit Dimech said that the European Parliament represents the peoples of the European Union, therefore it is also the parliament of all the Maltese and Gozitans. He emphasised that it will be his duty as an MEP to be the voice of the Maltese within the European Parliament, as well as a voice for the Nationalist Party in the EPP Group. He stated that his political work will see that the interests of the Maltese and Gozitans will form an integral part of the European project.

Zammit Dimech also made reference to the election for a new PN leader and stated that after 16 September, “whatever the choice will be, it will be a moment of courage and political renewal for the Nationalist Party.”

Zammit Dimech was not elected to the Maltese Parliament this year after 30 consecutive years in the House. He was elected to the EP via a casual election after the resignation of Therese Comodini Cachia.
