Real win first leg 3-1 at Camp Nou
Real Madrid practically claimed the Super Cup beating Barcelona 3-1 at the Camp Nou with substitute Ronaldo scoring a stunner and receiving a red card.
Real Madrid were without Cristiano Ronaldo who started from the substitute’s bench, and also had Luka Modric missing, who was substituted by Kovacic.
The first half was rather cagey and scrappy and was a rather disappointing affair.
Barcelona had more possession of the ball but keylor Navas was rarely called in action.
Real tried to control the match with Isco again in great form after his five star performance in the UEFA Super Cup against Manchester United in mid-week.
The second half was another story as Real Madrid surprisingly took the lead on 50 minutes when from a Marcelo cross on the left flank, Pique put the ball at the back of his own net in an attempt to clear.
Barcelona strted to push everything forward after a rather shaky moment after suffering the goal.
Suarez missed a sitter with an open goal at his mercy and Barcelona obtained the equaliser on 76 minutes with a highly disputed penalty when Suarez was brought down by Navas and messi made no mistake from the spot.
But Barca’s joy was shortlived as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a great goal four minutes later after a Real fast break. Ronaldo took of his shirt in celebration and was booked and three minutes later he received a second booking for a dive inside the Barca penalty area.
In the remaining minutes Asensio scored the third for Real to put the issue beyond dooubt.
