Transport Malta looking into ways to reduce risks after car thefts

-

Transport Malta yesterday said it was looking into ways how to reduce risks for drivers who park their car in Blata l-Bajda to use the park and ride system.

Replying to questions by The Malta Independent, Transport Malta said it deplored Monday‘s incident and is offering its full cooperation to the police in its ongoing criminal investigations.

On Monday, 10 cars parked in the area had their windows smashed with the perpetrators making off with objects found inside the vehicles.

The authority is investing in the operation and maintenance of this public car park, and in the related shuttle bus service to Valletta and Floriana, to provide an affordable and practical solution to commuters travelling to these two localities by car, it said.

“Over 750 car spaces are made available to drivers every day. Several measures are taken to reduce the risk of vandalism, accidental damage or other similar difficulties to the drivers and passengers who use these facilities. Such health and safety and security precautions are similar to those adopted in other similar public and private car parks,” Transport Malta said.

“In parallel with the Police investigations, the authority is also looking into this incident to identify any feasible measures that can be implemented to continue reducing the risk of similar incidents in its car parks.”

Transport Malta said it regretted the difficulties faced by the car owners affected by the irresponsible acts of the perpetrators involved.
