New coaches for Hibernians Basketball Club
Hibernians Basketball Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mario Tabone as the new coach for the men's basketball team and Sandro Farrugia for the women’s basketball team.
Mario brings strong experience to the Southern team, having coached at various clubs around the island including Hibernians, where he leadthe club’s historical women’s team who won various cups including 5 consecutive leagues. Prior to that, Mario played for the club in the glorious days of Enemalta Paola Stars. The club feels that Mario is the perfect fit for what it would like to accomplish.
The club has engaged Chad Patus as their foreigner for the upcoming season. Chad needs no introduction in the local scene, having won every honour in the local basketball scene with a number of local clubs. His hard working attitude will surely rub off on the rest of the team.
To strengthen the team, the club acquired the services of point guard Roderick Vella who brings his competitive spirit and great experience to a young team. National team player Anton Axiaq also joins the club, in a move to strengthen the team’s presence in the paint.
From the women’s side, the club managed to engage national team coach Sandro Farrugia. We are sure that his invaluable experience will be beneficial for this young team and he will be instrumental for the team to progress further. The club also welcomes Kaya Calleja and Rachele Camilleri to our club.
