Valletta retain Premier status

- Stewart Said

Valletta United made sure of playing in the Premier division next year after beating Marsaxlokk Fischer in the second relegation decider out of a possible three. The game had a similar story to that of last Tuesday. Apart from the difference in quality between both teams, Marsaxlokk had also an eye on the knock-out final to be played tomorrow.

Unlike the other game, this time kicked off the game on a high scoring four consecutive goals from a brace by Serbian Boris Vapenski, Aleandro Mifsud and James Spiteri Staines to set the pace. Veteran Charles Bugeja scored the only goal for his team. Stephen Rizzo’s team put the game to bed in the second session ending the second period 10-4 in advantage.

The third session unsurprisingly reduced its rhythm as Marsaxlokk managed to make the score more respectable. Centre Claudio Spiteri Debarro scored twice followed by Luke Calleja, but Daniel Paolella scored few seconds before the end of the session to keep the four-goal cushion.

The last session was a formality and as expected wasn’t dominated with rigid tactics, as Valletta had the upper-hand to finish the game with a six-goal advantage.
