Councillors to vote in first round
Nationalist Party’s councillors are voting today for the next party leader, who will also be leading the Opposition into the next European Parliament elections as well as the next general elections.
Frank Portelli, Chris Said, Alex Perici Calascione and Adrian Delia are nearing the end of a gruelling and lacking in sportsmanship campaign to lead the beleaguered PN.
In total, 1,365 PN councillors are registered to vote, with 128 having already voted last Saturday in the early voting scheme.
PN councillors in Malta have between 8am and 9pm to vote at the party’s headquarters, while those in Gozo are required to vote between 8am and 8pm at a party club in Ta Sannat.
Despite uncertainty over whether Adrian Delia is eligible to vote or not, the party confirmed that he is indeed a councillor and will be voting alongside the other three candidates tomorrow.
In addition to PN councillors, all deputies, local councillors, sectional groups and committee members will be eligible to vote in this first round.
From today’s results, the four candidates will be narrowed down to two. In the second round of voting on 16 September the remaining 22,000 strong paid up members are eligible to cast their vote.
According to the PN’s media, if for whatever reason [no such reasons were specified] the voting must continue on Sunday, the same time and location for both Malta and Gozo are being used.
