San Gwann and Vittoriosa prove a point

Newly promoted San Gwann and Vittoriosa produced some very good football in an entertaining match that also produced four goals. The result was a fair one too as neither side deserved to leave the pitch empty handed.
Vittoriosa had more of the ball especially in the second half when they went all out for the equaliser, but San Gwann defended well and were very dangerous with their counter attacks.
Vittoriosa held the edge in the opening minutes but had little or nnothing to show apart from some runs by Obiefule. Slowly but surely the newly promoted side started to come to grips with their opponents with Jan Tanti and Artet Suarez always on the move.
On 23 minutes San Gwann took the lead when from a Dylan Sammut freekick, Vittoriosa custodian Galea completely mis-timed his sortie and Thiago Lopes De Souza was on the right spot to score from an acute angle.
A minute later San Gwann went close again when Jan Tanti floated a precise cross from the left, but Andre Cachia completely unmarked headed wide. San Gwann were playing better now with Vittoriosa’s timid reaction coming from a Ogunuppe header that was easily saved by Bartolo.
On the resumption Vittoriosa pressed forward for the equaliser with San Gwann quick to hit back in their counter breaks. On 65 minutes Vittoriosa drew level when Liam Gauci scored direct from a freekick from a very acute angle.
Three minutes the San Gwann goalkeeper made amends saving brilliantly a Jamie Pace bombshell from another freekick. Vittoriosa were now in control and Bartolo saved brilliantly a Suarez Leon dipper.
Eleven minutes from time, almost against the run of play San Gwann were back in front when Ryan Zammit passed to the onrushing Joao Claudio Kiala, and the substitute made no mistake with a precise grounder.
Vittoriosa however were not to be denied and they obtained a deserved equaliser four minutes from time when Obiefule passed towards Clive Spiteri whose grounder from the edge of the area found its way to the corner of the net.
