Haller strikes as Frankfurt down Cologne

-

Cologne's form contributed to Peter Stöger's men making a nervy start, but Frankfurt rarely looked like taking advantage. Indeed, the hosts created the first two chances with Yuya Osako and Simon Zoller both lacking accuracy with shots from promising positions.

Frankfurt took the lead midway through the first half when Mijat Gacinovic went to ground under the challenge of Timo Horn inside the penalty area, and Sebastian Haller slotted the Eagles in front.

Kevin-Prince Boateng started to grow in confidence in the second half as Frankfurt began to get their slick game working while Cologne, conversely, kept getting caught out at the back.

Gacinovic could have doubled Frankfurt's lead on the hour mark, with a bit more composure, but the best game of the half was squandered by Osako with a miss which sums up Cologne's season so far: it has yet to get off the ground.

Gacinovic was influential in the Frankfurt midfield and it was his run which won the all-important penalty which earned Frankfurt all three points.

This is the first time the Billy Goats have failed to register a single Bundesliga point after five matches.

The Eagles equalled a club record: Only once before had they managed to keep three consecutive clean sheets away from home (during the 1992/93 season).

This is the first time Cologne have scored just once in their opening five league games.

The hosts have never started a Bundesliga campaign with two home defeats.

All three of Frankfurt's goals this season have come from dead ball situations.

Christian Pulisic seals Dortmund win away to Hamburg

Unbeaten in the league this season and yet to concede to concede a Bundesliga goal going into this match, Dortmund began confidently and immediately looked to impose themselves on the game.

There were early chances for Christian Pulisic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - who hit the post with a header - before Shinji Kagawa broke the deadlock following a corner.

The home team took a while to recover and although they fought well in midfield, they rarely looked like scoring before the interval.

Dortmund earned the breathing space their superiority deserved midway through the second half thanks to a superbly executed counter-attack.

Pulisic found Andrey Yarmolenko on the right and the summer signing skipped past his marker before fizzing a ball across the face of goal to leave Aubameyang with a simple tapin.

Pulisic got on the scoresheet himself in the closing stages, darting into the box and finishing superbly to seal the win for Dortmund.

Yarmolenko was outstanding again here, his pace, trickery and directness causing the Hamburg defence all sorts of problems.

He was involved in both of Dortmund's opening goals, taking the the corner that led to Kagawa's strike, and teeing up Aubameyang for the second.

Kagawa started a Bundesliga match for the first time this season. The Japan international only scored once last term - against Hamburg.

Kagawa is now tied with former Mainz striker Shinji Okazaki on 37 Bundeslia goals - the most ever scored in Germany's top flight by a Japanese player.

Pulisic scored his first ever Bundesliga goal against Hamburg on 17 April 2016.

The American's strike was also Dortmund's 3000th Bundesliga goal.

This is the first time Hamburg have lost lost three in a row under coach Markus Gisdol.

Dortmund have topped the table at the end of every matchday so far - a Bundesliga first for the club.

This was Dortmund's 750th victory in Germany’s top flight. Only Bayern (1046) and Werder Bremen (761) have won more Bundesliga games.

Leckie and Kalou fire Hertha Berlin past Bayer Leverkusen

The hosts enjoyed the perfect start to this encounter, Australian forward Leckie notching up his fourth goal in five Bundesliga outings for the Old Lady since his summer switch from Ingolstadt. Cutting inside Chilean Charles Aranguiz superbly, Leckie subsequently let fly into the far corner, leaving visiting goalkeeper Bernd Leno with no chance.

Things got even sweeter for Hertha shortly after, with Kalou heading in his first of the campaign following some superb work by Vedad Ibisevic.
