Sirens turn tide with second half comeback

-

Sirens 2 Vittoriosa S 1

Siresn returned to winning ways yesterday as they defeated Vittoriosa with the odd goal in three, thanks to two goals scored in the last thirty minutes of the match.

It was a balanced and keenly contested affair, in which Vittoriosa took the lead halfway through the first half, but were unable to hold on to their lead as they suffered the first defaet of the season.

After some attempts by both teams, attempts which never really worried both goalkeepers, Vittoriosa took the lead on 21 minutes when ex-Rabat player Ethan Goodman managed to chip the ball over Sirens goalkeeper Cini.

Sirens had a good reaction after suffering this setback and should have obtained an equaliser two minutes later when Obaje passed to the unmarked Christian Caruana who shot incredibly wide when well placed.

On the resumption Sirens had the edge over their opponents and on 50 minutes went close again with an Obaje grounder.

Sirens finally obtained the equaliser on 63 minutes when Audgustine Obaje managed to beat Magri with a close range header.

Sensing blood, Sirens continued to attack and went close with a Giovanni Galea header on 83 minutes. The winner came two minutes later when a Daniel Agius effort was blocked by Magri and from the rebound the same Agius crossed to the unmarked Giovanni Galea who fired home the winner.
