Espanyol net big win over Deportivo, Getafe hammer Villarreal

Espanyol registered only their second win of the season by beating struggling Deportivo de La Coruna 4-1.

They took the lead after just five minutes when Leo Baptistao headed in a cross from Victor Sanchez. And the advantage was doubled in the 22nd minute when Depor defender Alejandro Arribas deflected a corner onto his own net.

Depor pulled one back through Celso Borges eight minutes into the second half, but Gerard Moreno made the points safe with a penalty and a late tap-in.

Getafe thrashed Villarreal 4-0 to secure their first home win of the season. The hosts had suffered one-goal defeats to Sevilla and Barcelona at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez but got off the mark at the third attempt and ended Villarreal's four-match unbeaten run in all competitio­ns.
