Oscar-Gianmarco and Domenika-Melissa winners of the Swatch Beach Volley Malta

The first edition of the Swatch Beach Volley Tournament Malta held on Saturday 30th September at Pretty Bay beach volley courts B’Bugia ended with Swedish Oscar Bjorlin and Italian Gianmarco Rabuazzo winning the male category and Polish Domenika Dworniczak together with American Melissa Cheviron winning the female category.

In the male tournament Oscar and Gianmarco emerged winners after beating French pair Louis Reynaud and Kevin Marembert 2-0 in the final Match. It was a fantastic tournament with athletes coming from 9 different countries including Malta, Sweden, Italy, France, Poland, Serbia, Austria, Germany and Estonia respective­ly.

A round robin was played between the 7 teams. Polish Wojtek Stellmach and Serbian Nicolas Muncic dominated this group stage by winning all 6 matches. Gordon and Federico ended the first stage second after winning 5 matches loosing only to Stellmach and Muncic. Oscar and Gianmarco arrived third whileReyna­ud and Marembert clinched fourt place edging duo Polish MarekGala and Austrian Ben Hopfer and duo Gozitan Angelo Bonnici teamed with German Mauricio Preus.

In the semifinal fourt place Reynaud/Marenbert beat favourites Stellmach/Muncic and third placed Oscar/Gianmarco beat Gordon/Federico.

The final was a hard fought battle were all players gave their best to win it. Finally Oscar Bjorlin and Gianmarco Rabuazzo upgraded their level of play and won the tournament. Organisers presented a swatch watch as prize.

In the female category favourites duo Polish Domenika Dworniczak and American Melissa Cheviron won all their matches and were crowed as merited winners. They beat Maltese Hungarian duo Maria Caruana Demicoli\Viki Sebok in the semi-final and then maintained their good level of play against Maltese\Polish duo Isabel Borg and Agata Bartlomiej­czyk to win the swatch tournament in straight sets. Organizers presented a skin swatch watch as prize winners.
