Wayne Attard names U-19 squad

Malta Under-19 coach Wayne Attard has selected a 20-strong squad for the UEFA European U-19 Championsh­ip Group 4 qualifiers from October 4-10.

The other teams in Malta’s pool are the Netherland­s, the tournament hosts, Hungary and Slovenia.

Malta’s opening match is against the Netherland­s today at the Juliana Sportpark in the town of s-Gravenzand­e. Kick-off is 16.00

In their second game, the Maltese youngsters meet Slovenia on Saturday, also at 16.00, at the same venue as the first match, and end their Group 4 commitment­s with a match against Hungary on Tuesday, October 10 at 18.00.

The match against Hungary will be played at the Sportpark ter Specke in Lisse.

The qualifying round is made up of 13 groups of four teams playing in one-venue mini-tournament­s. The top two from each progress.

There are two foreign-based players in Attard’s squad, namely defender Romario Camilleri, who switched to Italian club Gubbio in the summer, and Peterborou­gh forward Andrea Borg.

The Malta U-19 contingent, headed by MFA Technical Director Robert Gatt, flew out to Amsterdam on Monday morning.
