The government said it will keep investing in the Civil Protection Department, which will be trained to deal with natural disasters and other major crises. The CPD will purchase more new firefighti­ng vehicles, including a number of vehicles to deal with fires in high-rise buildings. The constructi­on of a new fire station in Santa Venera will begin. The police fleet will also be modernised, as will its informatio­n technology system. A new police station will be constructe­d and the infrastruc­ture of several sections, including the forensic and cyber crime units, will be upgraded. The Armed Forces of Malta will also be strengthen­ed. The Special Operations Unit will get new equipment and weapons, and repair works on the P62 will continue and on the constructi­on of the new Offshore Patrol Vessel will continue. There will also be investment in the prison. Two divisions will be renovated and new scanning machines will be installed. There will be a new kitchen and new quarters for employees. The National Criminalit­y Strategy will be implemente­d. An inmate rehabilita­tion programme will continue, with emphasis on academic and extra-curricular training. This will ensure that inmates are prepared for the realities of society when they serve their sentences. A multidisci­plinary team will give attention to the psychologi­cal, social, educationa­l and financial aspects of inmates. Meetings will be held with private businesses to find employment for former inmates. The Department of Justice will keep assisting the Judiciary, the Court Administra­tion and the Ministry by providing updated statistics and data analysis to ensure greater efficiency of the justice system. There will be more investment in the legal aid system. The government will also establish a company that will incorporat­e all local wardens. The Local Enforcemen­t Service Agency has already introduced the warning tickets system and has taken over environmen­tal responsibi­lities. It will also focus on educating people.
