After having triumphed in the Super Cup last week nobody expected that Young Stars would be so soundly beaten by Qormi in their first encounter this season. After a studious start Qormi were probing the Young Stars defence and dominating possession without breaching their lines but they went ahead on 12 minutes when Kyle Micallef shot them into a 1-0 lead.

They went further ahead on 20 minutes when Juan Sarcia slotted home as a result of a penalty corner action. On 25 minutes Shameson Mifsud affected a diving save to keep his goal intact, the half time whistle blowing with Qormi retaining their two goal lead.

No one imagined the fare the second half would produce.

On 38 minutes Steve Tanti shot Qormi into a 3 -0 lead. He then scored his second on 47 minutes to shoot his team into a 4-0 lead, and a couple of minutes later he deflected a Keith Calleja goal bound shot high into the roof of the net, grabbing his hat trick and Qormi’s fifth.

Sarcia added to Qormi’s tally by scoring his second and his team’s sixth a minute before the final whistle sounded.
