Pembroke suffer first defeat

- Pembroke A: Żejtun C: Referee:

Pembroke A Zejtun C 0 1

Pembroke yesterday suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of a superior Zejtun side who with the three points grabbed are now joint second with Pieta, who however have a game in hand.

Zejtun were the better team in the first half with Pembroke always on the receiving end. After only three minutes play Zejtun were rather unlucky when an Adrian Carabott scorcher slammed against the crossbar with Gerada beaten.

On 12 minutes Zejtun had another good opportunity with a Brooke Farrugia shot that missed the base of the upright.

Zejtun continued to dictate matters and had another good move six minutes later with a Paul Lapira effort finishing just over the bar.

After Zejtun’s initial fury the match was now more balanced but Zejtun still showed the better ideas.

Just before the break Pembroke goalkeeper Gerada saved his side with a brilliant save off a Neil Tabone effort.

On the hour Pembroke went close a surprise lead when Yessous Camilleri almost committed an own goal with his header finishing against the upright.

On 73 minutes Zejtun broke the deadlock when from a Carabott corner, substitute Nanapere headed towards Yessous Camilleri who slotted home from close range.
