Zejtun desperate comeback puts them in second place

- Melita: Żejtun C: Referee:

Melita Zejtun C 1 2

Zejtun were heading to a stunning defeat against Melita, but managed to score two late goals when all seemed lost to snatch a dramatic victory and move to second place in the table, together with the in-form Pieta outfit.

Zejtun were a pale shadow of the side that impressed so much lately, and Melita took full advantage playing some disciplined football.

The first half had nothing or little to offer with very few scoring chances.

On the resumption things did not improve much and frankly the match was a boring affair in the first hour.

On 69 minutes melita broke the deadlock when a Daniel Cutajar cross shot completely deceived the Zejtun custodian with the ball finishing at the back of the net.

Zejtun were rather shocked with this setback and could not settle down.

They tried to put some pressure on the Melita rearguard, but the ideas were lacking and Melita’s defensive set-up seemed in full control.

On 83 minutes Zejtun were also unlucky when an an Adrian Carabott hit the base of the upright.

This was a sort of motivation for Zejtun who kept the pressure and did equalise on 89 minutes when Yessous Camilleri headed home from close range.

Zejtun sensed blood and obtained a dramatic victory in stoppage time with another header this time from Clayton Giordemaina from a corner action.
