5 1

Sirens proved to be too strong for the young and inexperienced Zabbar side yesterday, emerging easy winners to the tune of 5-1.

With Obaje arguably playing his best match for Sirens, there was no stopping Orosco Anonam’s side from grabbing the three points at stake.

Zabbar St Patrick, the only side without foreigners, is finding the going hard after a promising start and some very good performances.

To be fair, the score is maybe a bit harsh on Alfred Attard’s boys, but their inexperience was yesterday exposed to the full.

Sirens immediately took control of the proceedings and took the lead on 14 minutes when Aud-Gustine Obaje latched to a good cross from the left and managed to beat the Zabbar custodian.

Zabbar had some good attempts at goal with Diacono missing an easy chance on 28 minutes and also having a Sacco goal disallowed minutes later.

On 35 minutes the Zabbar defence was caught on the wrong foot and Giovanni Galea dribbled past Grech before slotting in an empty net.

In stoppage time Sirens scored a third when Darko Medic met with a Daniel Agius cross from the left to put the ball in the top corner.

On the Zabbar pushed forward to score at least a consolation goal, but almost suffered a fourth when Medic hit the base of the upright from close range, and Ryan Previ was unlucky when his scorcher after a fine run smashed against the upright.

Zabbar were unlucky too when their starlet striker Kurt Borg saw his shot from the edge of the area finishing against the upright with Marmara completely beaten.

On 72 minutes Sirens scored their fourth goal in a fast break with Giovanni Galea finishing in style with a powerful drive.

Two minutes later Zabbar’s misery was complete when Daniel Agius crowned a good performance with a neat angled drive from just inside the box.

In the first minute of stoppage time a consolation prize for Zabbar’s efforts when substitute Christian Stewart fired home from close range after meeting a good cross from Pace Briffa.
