St Venera and Mellieha remain on top with identical wins

St Venera Lightnings confirmed top spot in the Third Division table when they thrashed Ghaxaq by four goals to nil in the first match at the Charles Abela Stadium on Saturday.

The goals came from: Chris Vella 69’, Luca Bugeja (penalty) on 74’, William Camilleri on 76’ and Eddie Wilemanon 94’.

Mellieha also confirmed top spot alongside the Lightnings with a similar 4-0 victory over Dingli Swallows. The goals came from Jonathan Cutajar and Jeffrey Gauci in the first half, Jean Scholey on 48’ and another one by Jeffrey Gauci on 75’.

Kirkop suffered a shock defeat to bottom side Marsaskala when they went down by two goals to one at the Sirens Stadium. Michael Theuma put Kirkop ahead after 6 minutes but goals from Matthew Gauci on 17 and 63 minutes gave Marsaskala a memorable victory.

Mdina Knights moved up to joint fifth in the table when they easily beat Mtarfa by four goals to nil in the second match at the Sirens Stadium. The goals came from Mark Saliba on 13’and 32’, Julian Iuewke on 39’and StefiCaleo­n 90’.

Msida St Joseph beat Zurrieq in dramatic fashion to rise to joint fifth in the table in the first match at the Charles Abela Stadium on Sunday. Gilbert Camilleri put Zurrieq ahead on 65 minutes from a penalty but Dylan Attard on 86 minutes and Christian Farrugia on 91 minutes turned the game around for the Saints.

Xghajra Tornados confirmed sole third place with a 4-0 drubbing of Ta’ Xbiex. The goals came from two braces from Gabriel Bonavia and Royter Degiorgio on 9 and 29 minutes and on 49 and 70 minutes respective­ly. Results Sta.
