Roberta Metsola chosen as one of Europe’s ‘Young Leaders of the Year’

-

Member of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has been chosen as one of the European Young Leaders from across the European Union.

“I am very proud to have been chosen as one of the first 10 young leaders in Europe this year. To be included as an MEP reaffirms the work that we do in the European Parliament to improve people’s everyday lives in Europe,” said Dr Metsola.

“To be recognised in this way confirms to me that in Europe it is the size of your ideas, and how hard you are ready to work that matters, not the geographic size of our islands,” she added.

“This will provide another platform and forum for me to continue representing the people of Malta and Gozo. I look forward to debating the challenges currently facing our European Union, particularly when it comes to the respect for the rule of law, and discussing solutions for the EU to work to improve the lives of all its citizens,” Dr Metsola continued.

Leading European think-tank Friends of Europe organises the annual European Young Leaders programme, which includes individuals who are “engaged in making Europe a global champion for a better world.”

The list of European Young Leaders is available at http://www.friendsofeurope.org/publication/first-ten-names-eyl40-class2018-revealed and also includes German Bastian Obermayer, who was one of the leading journalists reporting on the Panama Papers.

Every year, European Young Leaders develop concrete proposals for Europe to tackle the challenges that have developed throughout the previous year. They are joined by top European actors and decision-makers who lend their policy-making expertise to the participants’ backgrounds.

Earlier this month, MEP Metsola was ranked as Malta’s most active MEP by MEPRanking.eu and as one of the 50 most active MEPs in the European Parliament.
