MAPFRE Malta offers support to shelter for victims of domestic violence

-

The Għabex Emergency Centre, an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, has had its bathrooms restored, thanks to the financial support of MAPFRE Malta.

MAPFRE Middlesea and MAPFRE MSV Life provided the finances needed to refurbish four bathrooms at the shelter, providing a better environment for the residents. The work, which included the replacement of tiles and ceramics, as well as structural work, was concluded this month.

The Għabex Emergency Centre was set up to provide an immediate safe environment to female victims of domestic violence and their children, who require immediate protection. It provides 24-hour crisis intervention to women suffering violence in intimate and family relationships as well as victims of human trafficking. It supports these women with the needed psychological and social support, helping them to leave abusive relationships and plan for the future. The centre falls under the remit of Aġenzija Appoġġ.

Following the completion of the bathrooms, employees of MAPFRE Midddlesea and MAPFRE MSV Life visited the shelter, spending time socialising with the residents, helping them to feel part of the community.

“It gives us great satisfaction to help these women, in whatever way possible. They deserve a place that feels like home, particularly when going through such difficult times. We are always looking for ways to help out the community, and this project is one of them,” Ana Zammit Munro, Chief Office Marketing at MAPFRE Middlesea said.

This project forms part of the company’s CSR programme, in which it helps out the community through volunteering or financial support. In the past years, it has helped various entities and NGOs, also involving its employees.
