Santa Lucia keep promotion hopes alive

St Lucia kept their promotion run alive with a 3-2 victory over Gharghur in the second match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Steve Meilak put St Lucia ahead after just 5 minutes but James Mifsud made it 1-1 on 25 minutes. Meilak made it 2-1 on the half hour with Sebastian Perdomo scoring the third goal on 49 minutes. Dudzniho Lima Nicolau reduced the deficit for Gharghur six minutes from time.

Mgarr eased their relegation worries when they beat Attard by two goals to one in the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday. Jurgen Gauci opened the scoring on 39 minutes but Kenneth Aquilina and Lazar Doric scored on 62 and 80 minutes respective­ly to seal the issue for Mgarr.

Kalkara continued marching on in a dream season solidifyin­g second place in the BOV Second Division table when they beat Fgura United in dramatic fashion in the first match at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

Dylan Xuereb opened the scoring on 84 minutes but Cleaven Frendo equalised from the penalty spot three minutes later. The winning goal came from Justin Felice deep into stoppage time.

Birzebbugi­a St Peter’s registered a whopping victory when they thrashed Marsaxlokk by five goals to two in the second match at the Sirens Stadium. Ronnie Celeste scored all Birzebbugi­a’s five goals on 11, 23, 33, 67 and 77 minutes. Marsaxlokk made the result more respectabl­e with goals by Alan Tabone on 87 minutes from a penalty and Pablo Doffo on 92 minutes.

Gudja United also continued their promotion run with an easy 3-0 victory over St George’s in the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday. Chris Grech opened the scoring on 40 minutes with Jean Claude Cesare making it 2-0 on 48 minutes. Grech sealed the issue three minutes from time.

Siggiewi also confirmed their promotion credential­s with a hard fought 3-2 victory over strugglers Luqa St Andrew’s. Trayo Grozev opened the scoring on 17 minutes with Gilmore Azzopardi doubling the score on 57 minutes. Gabriel Buttigieg reduced the deficit on 67 minutes but Roderick Spiteri made it 3-1 a minute later. Wayne Busuttil made it 3-2 on 74 minutes but Siggiewi held on for the final three minutes.
