Swieqi lose unbeaten record against Gudja

St. Lucia produced a last gasp victory to gain the three points in their game against Kalkara which saw the Saints reach the Greens on 22 points in the table.

Steve Meilak put St. Lucia ahead on 4 minutes with Clint Zammit doubling on 50 minutes. Kalkara pulled one back through Dylan Xuereb on 69 minutes with Timmy Thomas equalising for the Greens on 80 minutes. However, deep into stoppage time, Clint Zammit scored the winner for St. Lucia.

In the top game of the week, Gudja United dealt Swieqi United their first defeat when they beat the leaders by a solitary goal. This came courtesy of Adolphus Marshall on 20 minutes.

Marsaxlokk returned to winning ways when they thrashed St George’s by six goals to nil in the second match at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday. The goals came through a hat trick by Alan Tabone on 23’, 34’ and 53’ (the first from a penalty), a brace by Trevor Cilia on 11’ and 31’, and Antoine Barbara on 27’

Siggiewi also kept up the pace with the the top teams with a hard fought 1-0 victory over bottom team Gharghur. The winning goal came after just three minutes from Redent Roderick Spiteri.

Luqa St Andrew’s went a step closer to survival when they beat fellow strugglers Attard by two goals to one at the Luxol Stadium. Attard went ahead through Bledi Alla on 52 minutes but Luqa turned the game around with goals from Dylan Attard on 67 minutes and Craig Marney on 72 minutes.

Birzebbugi­a St Peter’s came from behind to snatch a point in their encounter against Mgarr United. Chris Saliba put Mgarr ahead after 6 minutes with Lazar Doric making it 2-0 at the start of the second half. However goals from Didier Sohna and Jean Claude Cassar seven minutes from time made it 2-2.
