Mellieha sole leaders after easy win over Mtarfa

Mellieha achieved sole leadership of the BOV Third Division table when they defeated Mtarfa by five goals to one in a one sided encounter at the Sirens Stadium.

Bryan Bautista scored a hat trick on 16, 36 and 85 minutes with the other Mellieha goals coming from Lincoln Micallef on 45 minutes and Jean Scholey on 63 minutes. Adam Wingfield scored a consolatio­n goal for Mtarfa on 44 minutes.

St. Venera Lightnings lost top spot in the Third Division table when they featured in a goalless draw in the first match at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

Kirkop United returned to winning ways when they defeated Mdina Knights by three goals to one in the second match at the Charles Abela on Sunday. Dylan Mintoff put Mdina ahead on 35 minutes but goals from: Neil Cutajar on 65’, Ayrton Buhagiar on 67’ and Davide Mula on 77’ sealed the issue for Kirkop.

Dingli Swallows produced an upset when they surprising­ly beat Msida St Joseph by two goals to one in the first match at the Charles Abela Stadium on Saturday.

Robert Ciantar put Dingli ahead after 44 minutes with Christian Farrugia equalising for Msida on 65 minutes. Matthew Borg scored the winner for Dingli on 71 minutes.

Zurrieq also returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Ta’ Xbiex in the first match at the Charles Abela Stadium on Sunday. Dylan Darmanin opened the scoring on 77 minutes with Ryan Farrugia doubling the score a minute from time.

Marsaskala registered their second win of the season when they defeated Ghaxaq by two goals to one in the second match at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday. Jonathan Bugeja put Marsaskala ahead on 12 minutes but Christian Grixti equalised for Ghaxaq on 33 minutes. The winning goal came from a Nestor Canas penalty deep into stoppage time.
