Hibs and Floriana clash in match for Super Cup

-

The BOV Super Cup will be played for this afternoon when Hibernians face Floriana in the annual contest between the reigning champions and the FA Trophy holders.

Expectations of an entertaining, hard-fought encounter are high as both teams will be going all out to end their year on a flying note by lifting the final honour in 2017.

Today’s match kicks off at 3pm and if it ends in a draw, extra time will be given. If the result remains a draw, penalties will be taken to determine the winner.

Both coaches, Mark Miller of Hibernians, and Nicolas Chiesa, of Floriana, are aiming to win the match.

The Paolites want to bounce back onto the winning track after their last gasp defeat at the hands of Balzan in the league match last Saturday.

On their part, Chiesa wants his boys to continue where they left off on his debut, that is, a 6-0 win against bottom League club Lija Athletic.

For Chiesa, it will be his second match leading the side after the resignation of Giovanni Tedesco.

On Monday, he told a news conference that this match is very important for him. He said he was convinced that Floriana will be giving their all to win the match.

He said: “There is a Cup at stake. We are coming from 10 difficult days after our first defeat of the season in the derby against Valletta and our exit from the FA Trophy.

“We will also be playing for the injured Ignacio Varela who will miss the match.

“We have recovered at various levels, result-wise, mentally and physically. We are prepared to face the champions with confidence.”
