Good results for Maltese swimmers at European short course championsh­ips

One of the most important events in the Swimming Calendar for the ASA of Malta is the participat­ion in the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championsh­ips which this year were held in Copenhagen, Denmark between 13 and 17 December.

The following swimmers were led by President Joe Caruana Curran and National Swimming Coach Artem Goncharenk­o.

Mya Azzopardi, Michael Stafrace, Francesca Falzon Young, Mikhail Umnov, Matthew Galea and Matthew Zammit.

The competitio­n format featured heats in the morning and finals in the afternoons and was held under FINA Technical Rules. Top European swimmers were present for this competitio­n which gave a great exposure to the Maltese swimmers.

The venue for the competitio­n was a temporary swimming pool which has been installed at the iconic and brand new Royal Arena which can host up to 16,000 spectators at a concert setting. The following events were held: 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m (Women), 1,500m (Men) Freestyle

Throughout the competitio­n a number of National Short Course records were broken as detailed hereunder, and most of the swimmers improved their Personal Best times. Francesca Falzon Young 100m Back 1:04,56 National SC Record (previously held by Nikki Muscat at 1:05,54 since Dec 2010)
