-

Starlites GIG 66 Cynergi Depiro 72 (17-18, 13-11, 18-16, 18-27)

Both sides were searching for their opening league victory and this befell to Depiro after their two defeats.

Starlites were without Robert Bonnici and Matthew Scerri roping in Ian Felice Pace who stayed on the bench. Depiro had david Camilleri crossing over from Athleta to play the rest of the season with them but they had Lene Duckinson and Malcolm Mallia missing.

Mitchell Brewe for Starlites and Dominic Scafidi for Depiro opened with treys.

The lead then changed hands four more times as Scafidi netted another Depiro triple besides four more hoops.

Mitchell Alec Felice Pace and Shawn pace all made a brace of hoops as Depiro kept their noses in front. In teh second period Pace sank a Starlites trey as they went in front but Depiro put in four hoops in a row.

Their lead was quashed as Starlites made up an 8-2 run till the end of the session with another Brewe trey to skip just ahead on a slim 30-29 score at the interval.

After the break, Felice Pace nailed two quick triples as Starlites edged further in front. Depiro then came up with a solid 14-2 run with more Scafidi points and a David Bugeja trey to open up a good advantage. This was swept away as Starlites ended the period with a 10-0 run for a 48-45 advantage.

In the last session Andrew Aquilina netted a brace of Depiro triples and Felice Pace also netted his trey in between for Starlites.

Scafidi was still a thorn in Starlites' defence as Depiroheld a useful advantage.

A late Starlites thrust had them a triple away after a Ryan carabott three point play but Depiro held out and free throws made the game secure.
