Life saver win for Marsa with Platisa brace

New signing Marko Platisa immediatel­y made his presence felt scoring a brace to turn defeat into victory and give Marsa a precious win in their important relegation battle.

Marsa held the initiative in the early stages of the match with the Melita goalkeeper blocking on De Fex Marriaga. On 20 minutes a Mark Gauci freekick sailed over the bar and three minutes later Emerson Bonello headed wide following a corner action.

Marsa continued to attack with Mark Gauci hitting over the bar, but Melita took the lead against the run of play on 38 minutes when Aidan Mizzi slotted home from close range following a Nicholas Bradshaw precise freekick.

Marsa went close to an equaliser just before the break with a Platisa low drive well saved by Grima.

On the resumption, Marsa continued to attack and obtained a deserved equaliser on 58 minutes when Marko Platisa rounded off a defender before beating Grima with a low drive.

Seven minutes later Melita nearly regained the lead with Luke Micallef’s effort almost deceiving the Marsa custodian.

On 74 minutes Melita were unlucky when a Matthew Hammet shot hit the upright. In stoppage time Marsa obtained a dramatic winner when De Fex Marriaga’s shot was partially saved by Grima and Marko Platisa was on hand to drill the ball home.
